We are launching really soon our special “Rescue Edition” of our weekend show, DOGSTAR.

We have been receiving great rescue videos and stories from some of you, and I’d like to share here, on my weekly blog, 3 inspiring stories:
1. Joey
Joey came from Mexico. He was flown to Newfoundland, where we currently reside, after he was spared life, and removed from his natural environment because of his hardships.
Joey is a VERY happy five year old, here on the island.
He came to me when he was about nine months old. A missionary couple, who reside in Newfoundland, but spend a great deal of time in Mexico, discovered him while they were spaying and neutering strays, and then releasing them back into their environment.
He happened. The little kangaroo. With a rope embedded into his flesh, and skeletal, missing his hair. They said that there was no way they were putting him back out there.
They nursed him for months, and the first picture I have isn’t from that moment, but from when they knew he would make it, and with enough care, were able to get him strong enough to know that he was going to live. Six months, and he was ready to be re-homed.
I was persistent in my ample research, that he would fit our pack. After agreeing to a three day trial, I knew on day one that he was in.
Joey now, is a happy and healthy, beautiful canine, and friend, to both of us, and to his brother and sister (Monty: Border Collie; Rio: Shiloh Shepherd).
A forever soul whom we will cherish until we, ourselves, part.

2. Sophia
“When Sophia was 6 months old she was found wandering the streets as a stray. She was taken to a high kill shelter and then pulled by a rescue. Brought to a special farm for rescue animals, Sophia waited for a year for a new home yet no one wanted her. She was then shipped up on the rescue relay for dogs to the London Humane Society and that is where I found her. It was a long journey to find her forever home. While Sophia was overlooked for so long, she is certainly recognized for being such an incredible and special dog now. To celebrate her journey, we have a special fundraiser: the Ultimutts Retrieve for Rescue. Sophia raised $1033.50 at the Purina Pawsway Winterfest shows by pickpocketing the donations. Isn’t that incredible?!?! All funds will be donated to Helping Homeless Pets”Sophia is a very special rescued dog. She also performs for children at a women’s shelter bi-weekly, previously as therapy at a hospice/respite for children and in the coming year, we are adding a therapy program at the Ronald McDonald house.
3. Gabby
This is Gabby, a disabled German Shepherd rescue from Miami, FL. She spent the first five years of her life in a crate, used as a breeding dog. She was left to die in a high kill shelter in Miami before she was rescued by Sindi Parker-Blanchette and Don Blanchette of Almost Home Dog Rescue and Rehab in Vermont. Because she was left in a crate, her legs never fully developed and she needs a quad wheelchair to get around. This is why this video is her at her most awesomeness -because the fact that she is able to walk for just a short distance is miraculous given her serious disability.
It’s a true love story -the love that Sindi and Don have for their rescue dogs (60+ dogs -many who are special-needs dogs like Gabby- who have found their forever home at Almost Home) and the love that they have for Gabby who is a wonderful ambassador for their sanctuary. And Gabby’s courage to overcome her condition and medical issues is a true testament for her love of life!
